In this One-Hour (1.0) General CLE Course, Jason T. Lorenzon, Esq., Board Certified Specialist in Aviation Law (Florida), Kent State Aeronautics Professor and Certificated UAS pilot and Airline Transport Rated Pilot, goes over Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), commonly known as drones, and how they are revolutionizing industries from real estate to agriculture, but they also present a complex web of legal challenges. This module is designed to equip Ohio attorneys with the foundational knowledge and practical tools needed to advise clients navigating the rapidly evolving field of drone law.

The course will cover:

  • Federal UAS Regulations: Overview of FAA regulations, including Part 107, airspace classifications, and operational compliance requirements.
  • State and Local Laws: Ohio-specific drone laws and ordinances impacting UAS operations.
  • Property Law Concerns: Exploration of common law doctrines related to air rights, trespass, and nuisance, and their application to drone usage.
  • Privacy Implications: Addressing privacy concerns and liabilities arising from drone operations, including surveillance and data collection.
  • Emerging Case Law: Discussion of recent legal precedents shaping drone litigation and enforcement.
  • Practical Scenarios: Interactive case studies to apply legal principles to real-world UAS disputes.

Attendees will gain insights into the intersection of federal and state laws, strategies for mitigating risk, and best practices for advising clients involved in drone operations or disputes. Whether representing businesses, government entities, or private individuals, this course offers invaluable guidance on addressing the opportunities and challenges presented by UAS technology.
