Summary

The Ethical Lawyer:
2025 Case Law Update

Agenda
This annual CLE provides a comprehensive review of ethical case law developments from the past year. The panel will analyze recent cases involving attorney ethics, including violations of professional rules, common pitfalls, and lessons learned. The discussion will also cover aggravating and mitigating factors in ethics cases and how these factors influence sanctions. New Advisory Opinions issued by the Ohio Board of Professional Conduct and the American Bar Association will be examined, with practical implications for daily legal practice. The program will provide guidance on preventing ethics violations, including best practices for client communication, confidentiality, conflicts of interest, billing, and overall professional responsibility. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session where hypothetical scenarios may be discussed with the panel.

The program will also address trends in disciplinary actions and emerging areas of concern for lawyers in Ohio. Ethical considerations for remote practice, social media, and technology use will be explored, along with practical advice for lawyers transitioning into mediation, arbitration, or other non-traditional practice areas.
